What is Choghadiya?
Choghadiya (चौघड़िया) is a Vedic time-division system that splits each day and night into eight equal periods, each governed by a specific planet. The word derives from "chau" (four) and "ghadi" (a traditional time unit of 24 minutes), totalling roughly 96 minutes per period. Each Choghadiya carries a distinct quality — Amrit (nectar) and Shubh (auspicious) are ideal for important activities, Labh (gain) favours financial matters, Char (moving) suits travel, while Rog (disease), Kaal (death), and Udveg (anxiety) are best avoided for new undertakings. The sequence rotates based on the weekday ruler, making the table unique each day and location.
