Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor was a British and American actress who began as a child performer and became one of the major stars of classical Hollywood cinema. Her films included National Velvet, A Place in the Sun, Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cleopatra and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Taylor won two Academy Awards for Best Actress and became one of the world's highest-paid film stars in the 1960s. Later in life she became a prominent HIV/AIDS activist, co-founding amfAR and founding the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
