The life
Jawaharlal Nehru was an Indian nationalist leader, statesman and author who became independent India's first prime minister.
A central figure in the Indian National Congress, he worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi and was repeatedly imprisoned during the independence struggle.
He led the country from 15 August 1947 until his death in 1964 and helped shape its parliamentary, secular and non-aligned institutions.
