James Danforth Quayle is an American retired Republican politician and Indiana National Guard veteran who served as the 44th vice president of the United States from 1989 to 1993.

Before the vice presidency, he represented Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 to 1981 and in the U.S. Senate from 1981 to 1989.

After leaving office, he published memoirs, worked in private equity, remained active in Republican politics, and was reported to have advised Mike Pence after the 2020 presidential election.
