The life
Gerald Ford was an American Republican politician and lawyer who served in the U.S. House of Representatives before becoming vice president in 1973 and president in 1974. He remains the only U.S. president who was not elected to either the presidency or vice presidency.
Ford took office after Richard Nixon resigned during the Watergate scandal, pardoned Nixon in September 1974, lost the 1976 election to Jimmy Carter, and died in California in 2006.
