The life
Salman Rushdie is an Indian-born British-American novelist whose fiction often combines magical realism, historical fiction and migration between Eastern and Western cultures. Midnight's Children won the Booker Prize and became one of the prize's most celebrated winners.
The Satanic Verses brought severe controversy and a 1989 fatwa from Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Rushdie survived a stabbing attack in New York in 2022 and later wrote about it in the memoir Knife.
