The life
Terence Chi-Shen Tao is an Australian-American mathematician and professor at UCLA, where he holds the James and Carol Collins Chair in the College of Letters and Sciences.
A child prodigy raised in Adelaide, he won International Mathematical Olympiad medals as a teenager, completed bachelor's and master's degrees at Flinders University at age 16, and earned his PhD from Princeton before joining UCLA.
His research spans harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, combinatorics, compressed sensing and number theory; his honours include the Fields Medal, MacArthur Fellowship, Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics and Companion of the Order of Australia.
